Applied Kinesiology (AK)

Applied Kinesiology (AK) was developed in 1964 by Dr. George Goodhart. AK utilizes Muscle Testing -also called Muscle Response Testing (MRT) or Autonomic Response Testing (ART)-to evaluate the three functional aspects of well being.

Allergy / Sensitivity Elimination and Reprogramming Technique (A/SERT)

What is A/SERT? A/SERT (Allergy / Sensitivity Elimination and Reprogramming Technique) is a revolutionary treatment system based on the principles of Chiropractic, Acupuncture, and Applied Kinesiology (Muscle Response Testing). This technique was developed by Dr. John Brimhall, and is a modification of NAET (Nambudripad's Allergy Elimination Technique) developed by Dr. Devi Nambudripad. This treatment, in conjunction with the 10-Step Protocol, can bring about dramatic improvement -at times even total elimination- for all types of allergies. It is simple, non-invasive and extremely effective. It is currently practiced by hundreds of health practitioners, including MD's, nurses, acupuncturists, chiropractors, dentists, and, to some extent, allergy sufferers themselves.

A/SERT work? A/SERT is based on the recognition that all things, animate and inanimate, in our universe have their own specific electromagnetic fields due to their atomic and molecular makeup, and that these fields affect each other. This is true for our bodies, rocks, pollen, mold, peanut butter, a flower, water, in short, everything. This electromagnetic energy is associated with meridians (energy pathways) in acupuncture, chi in Chinese Medicine, and can be demonstrated with Kirlian photography. Nuclear physicists can determine the type of atom by its electromagnetic frequency. According to Dr. Devi Nambudripad, this is what happens: Your energy system and brain interpret a particular substance (a diamond ring, a whole wheat bagel, a peanut, hot water, sun light) as potentially harmful to your body, and your body reacts. For other people this same item is totally harmless. Your energy pathways freeze up as a way of defending the body against this unsuitable substance. This in turn blocks your energy meridians and, if this condition continues, the overall functioning of your body suffers.

A/SERT Diagnostics - Our fingertips are very sensitive to the electromagnetic energy of substances with which we come into contact. By placing a sample of a suspected allergen into a person's hand, and using Applied Kinesiology muscle testing, the A/SERT practitioner can determine whether or not a person reacts 'weak' or ÒstrongÓ to the substance, i.e., whether this substance causes an energy blockage in the patientÕs body. Such blockages can cause a wide variety of symptoms, from sneezing and coughing to chronic diseases such as asthma.

A/SERT Desensitization - The A/SERT practitioner stimulates key points along the patient's spine while the patient is holding the allergen. The doctor stimulates certain meridian points, specific organs and lobes of the with a Low Level Laser. A chemical change takes place in the autonomic nervous system, neutralizing any allergic reaction to the substance. A/SERT reprograms the brain and the nervous system, and eliminates your body's conditioned response to the 'allergen'. Environmental medicine has been dealing with hidden allergies for several decades. You try to avoid the allergenic substance in your life, you go on a rotation diet, and maybe you can manage. Cold Laser Therapy

Where is this being used?

The Erchonia cold laser device has gained recent FDA approval for the non-surgical treatment of neck and shoulder complaints and is being used widely in the NFL and by the USPS tour de France team chiropractor. Rolfing

What is Rolfing?

Rolfing is a system of bodywork developed by Dr. Ida P. Rolf. Dr. Rolf earned a Ph.D. in biochemistry from Columbia University in 1921. Confronted with a sick child, for whom medical intervention was unsuccessful, she began to explore alternative forms of therapy. Over the course of time, she distilled her own process from that exploration and experimentation. Dr. Rolf founded the Rolf Institute of Structural Integration in 1971, after developing her unique system for almost 50 years. Although she called the work Structural Integration, her students named it Rolfing – now a registered service mark of the Rolf Institute of Structural Integration.

The work is done in a series of sessions, usually 8-12, spread over several weeks or months. The process involves direct manipulation of connective tissue, or fascia, along with movement education. The work ranges in touch from very subtle and indirect, to more direct pressure. There is some intensity associated with the release of tissues. However, the client is always in charge of how much intensity they are willing to experience at any given time.

Research has demonstrated that Rolfing creates a more efficient use of the muscles, allows the body to conserve energy, and creates more economical and refined patterns of movement. Research also shows that Rolfing reduces chronic stress by producing changes in the body structure. For example, a study showed that Rolfing significantly reduced the spinal curvature of subjects with lordosis (sway back); it also showed that Rolfing enhances neurological functioning.

Who will benefit from Rolfing?

Anyone who wishes to feel more support and ease of motion in their body will benefit from Rolfing. People generally report a sense of lightness and improved range of motion. Some also say they feel more emotionally accessible, both internally and with others.

To determine whether the process is appropriate for you, a consultation can be scheduled. You will be asked to full out a medical history questionnaire. The consultation usually lasts 30-45 minutes. During that time, you will have an opportunity to discuss your personal history and goals, and to ask questions. If you determine that you wish to proceed with the series, you can schedule your sessions. Some people come as often as once a week, or as infrequently as once a month. The average is once every two weeks. Sessions last from one hour to one hour and fifteen minutes.
